Exfoliation is the natural process in which old skin cells are replaced by younger cells that emerge from the deeper layers of the dermis. This helps the skin on your face maintain its youthful tone and appearance. At the same time, collagen production in the deeper layers of the dermis helps that skin remain full and firm.

However, as you age the processes of exfoliation and collagen production can slow. This can cause your skin to lose its youthful tone, while fine lines and wrinkles develop and deepen. Early on you might find be able to maintain your skin with a healthy lifestyle and the occasional use of a retail grade retinol skin cream. Unfortunately, as time goes on the natural process of exfoliation will continue to slow and retail strength skin creams will likely become increasingly ineffective. Before getting to this point, you should consider setting up a consultation appointment with our Doctor, Dr. Mohammad Banki.

After assessing the degree of your skin aging the doctor will present you with a treatment plan designed to restore some of your skin’s natural exfoliation and appearance. In many of these cases he might recommend performing a microdermabrasion treatment to quickly boost exfoliation. Afterward, he might provide you with prescription for Retin-A skin cream to boost exfoliation with greater potency than retinol skin creams. This might require occasional follow up appointments at Artistic Contours to monitor your progress.
